Baltic (September 2020)

Abel Rodriguez. Again another interesting instance of a different framework for making/ looking at art (Rodriguez does not call it art so perhaps it is wrong to label it as such). Certainly a little jarring to get your head around at first: if its not art how should I read it? While the first time I went I wasn’t that impressed, on my second visit to exhibition I was really moved by the detailed and precision of the drawings, not in their objective accuracy but their factual and didactic quality. Only the necessary detailed needed to identify specific fruits, plants, and animals are included. The drawings aren’t observations but diagrams. The film was also really moving.

Christina Ramberg. Got slightly obsessed with the Chicago Imagists for like a week after seeing this. Roger Brown is so great.

Huma Bhabha. Not so crazy about all the work in this show. The use of polystyrene was quite interesting and inspiring through, particularly in terms of its weight.
